Ever since Big Girl was a little girl, I wanted one of these in her room. I thought I'd find someone to build one in Ukraine, but as it turns out, there were not wood masters lined up on the street corner hoping to get my business. Mr. YH totally has the talent to build one. Except for one teensy tiny fact: he was deployed or working a miserable job that afforded him -0- time for luxuries like woodworking the past few years.
Two weeks ago I asked our Navy friend J if he would build me one if I paid him. He said he'd do it and I could pay for materials. One week later, this is what showed up in my garage.

Look at this fun upgrade he included!

I have the paint and will begin the final touches soon! The girls are so excited (and I really think Baby Girl would be, too, if she could only understand!)! J and J are expecting a little one this spring- if it's a girl, her daddy is experienced, and if it's a boy, I've heard rumors that an aircraft carrier bookcase is being designed! I guess if this Navy gig doesn't work out, he at least has some back-up talent!! J and J, we love you guys!!
I've also been busy working on some art projects for the girl's room. I am almost finished with the first canvas and have two more I'd like to finish. Rental house/base housing = plain white walls that need some color! I can't ship paint, so another thing to do on my to-do list! {Why do I create work for myself?!?!}

You paint?! That is beautiful! I've wanted to make canvases for the boys, but they never look "right." That bookcase is FANTASTIC! I'd even say it's better than the Pottery Barn one. That is some talent right there! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!! So cute and I can't wait to see it completed! You are so super talented! It looks way better than PB and I am SURE much more love put into it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great friend! Tara, that dollhouse shelf is just GORGEOUS! And your painting is divine! I just found your blog through Kelly's Korner and love reading what you have to say...and LOL at your little ones' convo in the post below. :o) God bless their hearts! Aren't kids a trip?

That is amazing. I always find those kinds of things in catalogs and enlist my husband to help me make them for 1/4 of the cost. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteYou're so amazing...creative and talented! Love the dollhouse and canvas! :)
